Hand Scraped Engineered Hardwood Flooring explained: is it right for your project?

We’re going to run over not only what Hand Scraped Engineered Hardwood Flooring is but also try and figure out if it’s right for your project. There are many great things about hand-scraped floors and we feel here at Woodpecker that they don’t get the spotlight that they deserve. So lets dive in, shall we?

What is Hand Scraped Hardwood flooring?

So just what are Hand Scraped Hardwood floors? This is going to come as a surprise but it’s exactly what it sounds like. It’s a process in which every plank is scraped by hand to create a texture in the flooring. In larger quantity cases, a machine runs over the planks and creates what feels like a minor wave on the floor. This not only brings out the beauty of the grain on your floor but also makes your flooring look and feel much more natural.

The best part about this style of flooring? The durability.

Is it right for your project?

This floor works great for any project where there’s going to be a high amount of traffic. Are there going to be young children running around your home? Do you happen to have a big puppy or two? What about having guests around frequently? The number one thing we can do in any situation especially when picking our finishes is to set ourselves up for success right? Accidents happen. Kids happen. Puppies happen. Cats happen. LIFE HAPPENS! Which is why these floors are the perfect problem solver for a home with this type of traffic. The texture of every plank adds a layer of protection against everyday wear and tear. You won’t have to worry about seeing any scratches or any dents. We like to say that the more beat up these floors get, the better they look.

The majority of products in our Berkeley collection undergo a hand scraping process.

Maintenance

What other things we could say about these floors? The lack of maintenance they’re going to need. Because we’ve got texture in these floors, there’s not much to maintain. It makes things that much easier. The maintenance schedule is: regular sweeping, occasional mopping (with the proper wood floor solution please, not water), and refinishing your floor every couple of decades is all it will need to keep the flooring looking like new. Leaving everyone much more time on focusing on the things they want to. We’d love to believe that everyone only wants to think about flooring 24/7. But we’ll keep dreaming.

That being said, Hand-Scraped Engineered Hardwood Flooring is the best choice for any project when the home is going to have a high amount of traffic and we want to have a low maintenance option. How many times do we get to come across something that’s low maintenance and looks incredible still? These floors are an incredible option and will always look good. The texture and vintage appeal will leave your project that much more grateful you went this route. Trust us, your floors will thank you.
